National Botanic Gardens

The National Botanic Gardens is one of Ireland’s most-visited free attraction and it doesn’t disappoint. This is the perfect attraction for people that take an interest in botany and nature. Take a walk around the gardens and witness the collection of over 300 plant species from all over the world. The gardens are well known for their efforts to protect and conserve the species and their historic glasshouses. Visitors can join a guided tour or have a day to themselves by unwinding and absorbing the breath-taking scenery in their open fields, shady benches spot and picnic areas.

Take the Luas tram right outside the hotel into the City Centre and then a short journey on Dublin Bus (83/83a/13/9 routes) to the gardens. The National Botanic Gardens is open 7 days a week.

National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts and History Museum (Collins Barracks)

This museum is one that should be on everyone’ s bucket list and better yet it is only footsteps away from us, Ashling Hotel. Ideal for Irish history enthusiasts and has exhibitions on display with crafts, design, interiors and furniture, silverware, accessories and jewellery from many years ago in Ireland. There is also an exhibit labelled ‘Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising’. This display was set up in 2016 to remember the events that took place in Ireland 100 years ago and explores the background of the 1916 Rising with the aim to educate more people on the 1916 Rising. The museum is open 7 days a week and is free of charge.

The Irish National War Memorial Garden

Located in Islandbridge and only a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The War Memorial is dedicated to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914–1918. The garden is one of the most famous memorial gardens in Europe and is also known for its architectural interest and beauty as well as the historic aspect.

When you stay with us, you should seize the opportunity to take the trip over to see the gardens. The Irish National War Memorial Garden is open to the public 7 days a week and won’t cost you a cent!

The National Gallery of Ireland

Located in the heart of Georgian Dublin, the gallery is extremely appealing for individuals with an interest in art. The exhibition’s on display show collections, descriptions and narratives about art and society and there will be many different exhibits on display throughout the year. The team aim to provide an outstanding experience that inspires an interest and an appreciation of art for all.

Head down to the gallery and check out the art, it’s open 7 days a week.

Phoenix Park

A walk around Phoenix Park is an ideal day out for everybody, especially families with kids. Bike tours, Segway tours are just some of things going on in the park daily. Phoenix Park is a 5 minute walk from us, no public transport needed. Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed public park in any capital in Europe and also home to a wild deer herd that don’t mind visitors but prefer to be in their own company, so it is advised not to disturb them. Admission to the park is free, however, there is a small charge for bike and Segway hire. Áras An Uachtaráin is located in Phoenix Park, it is the official residence of the President of Ireland and definitely worth checking out. If you’re lucky enough you might catch him outside with his wife Sabina and two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Bród and Misneach. Tours of Áras An Uachtaráin take place almost every Saturday and are free of charge.
