Our Neighbours- The National Museum of Ireland

At the Ashling Hotel Dublin, a leading 4-star hotel in Dublin, we’re delighted to share exciting news from our next-door neighbour, the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks. This September, the museum will proudly showcase the legendary 1961 Fender Stratocaster that belonged to Irish blues-rock icon Rory Gallagher.

Gallagher, born in Ballyshannon in 1948, famously bought the guitar in 1963 for £100. Over the decades, it became his signature instrument, featuring in countless electrifying performances and recordings. With its distinctive worn look, the Stratocaster symbolises his dedication to music and creativity.

In 2024, this cherished guitar was acquired at auction by concert promoter Denis Desmond, who generously donated it to the National Museum of Ireland. Thanks to this thoughtful gesture, visitors can now experience a piece of Irish rock history up close at Collins Barracks — just a stone’s throw from our Dublin hotel.
