Dublin’s Whiskey Distilleries

Table of Contents

Ireland and in particular Dublin has a long history of producing the finest whiskies dating back as far as 18th Century. Due to the high demand, at one time there was once almost 40 distilleries in operation in the one area, the Golden Triangle located in the Liberties. In the 20th century the industry declined with the last of the distilleries closing its doors in 1973. Nowadays, the Whiskey industry is making a revival with cool and trendy distilleries popping up regularly.

Here at Ashling Hotel, we are within walking distance of some of Dublin’s best known distilleries and certainly recommend paying one if, if not all three of them a visit the next time you’re in Dublin.

Jameson Distillery Bow Street

Only a 5 minute walk from Ashling Hotel, The Jameson Distillery is one for everyone’s bucket list. The guides will give you a tour around the building, serving heritage and history. Jameson is one of the most recognisable brands when it comes to Irish Whiskey. The distillery first opened its doors back in 1780 and although Whiskey isn’t produced there today, a tour of the factory gives you a step by step walk through on the production process and some interesting insights into the history of the famous brand.  Some of Ashling Hotel Front Desk team were lucky enough to be invited along to visit the Jameson Distillery and highly recommend.

Teeling Distillery

Located in the famous Liberties against the backdrop of the area once steeped in whiskey history, Teeling was one of the newest whiskey distilleries to open in Dublin back in 2015, in over 100 years. The Teeling family have a long history of making whiskey dating back to 1782 when a craft distillery was set up on Marrowbone Lane. Now, 230 years later the new generation of the Teeling family are carrying on the  legacy. This, unlike many others, is fully functioning and dispenses hundreds of thousands of litres of whiskey a year.  Join a guided tour as you and your group experience first-hand the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a fully operational distillery followed by one of our range of whiskey tastings. The also offer private tours, ideal for hen or stag parties, The Fill Your Own Experience consists of a distillery tour, an elavated private tasting of three distillery exclusive whiskeys and then fill your own bottle of whiskey directly from the cask and personalise the label as a unique memento to remember your visit by.

Pearse Lyons Distillery

A new distillery located in the heart of the Liberties in Dublin city Pearse Lyons Distillery at St. James is a new chapter for The Liberties, Dublin. Family history, a personal passion for brewing and distilling, and an entrepreneurial spirit has inspired the restoration of St. James’ Church. The distillery itself is has a unique home, in the old St. James church on James Street.  Pearse Lyons opened its doors in 2017 and has welcomed thousands of visitors since. During renovations, the owners updated the old and damaged stain glass windows of the church and put their own unique stamp on them, the windows now tell four different stories including ‘How Irish Whiskey is Made’ and ‘The Art of Coopering’.  The Distillery  created four tailored experiences to suit all interests.
