Rainy Days In Dublin

Table of Contents
Did you know that on average, Dublin has around 150 days of rain each year? If you’re visiting Dublin on a day when the sun isn’t shining, we have plenty of indoor activities to keep you occupied and make your visit to Dublin as interesting as possible. You can still explore the culture, history, and fun of the city without getting wet. Don’t risk a long commute in the rain. Instead, choose a central hotel in Dublin so you can get around easily no matter the weather. The 4-star Ashling Hotel Dublin offers spacious, central accommodation in the heart of Dublin. We even have bus and Luas stops close by if you want to keep your feet dry. Here are some of our favourite things to do on rainy days in Dublin.

Chester Beatty

Described by Lonely Planet as ‘not just the best museum in Ireland but one of the best in Europe’, a visit to Chester Beatty has to be on any Dublin bucket list. A museum and library, this unique museum promotes the appreciation of world cultures through treasures and rare books and manuscripts from Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. Once the private library of Sir Alfred Chester Beatty, an American engineer and collector, the Chester Beatty is now a research library for scholars from all over the world. If you get a break from the rain, take time to explore the grounds of the wonderful Dublin Castle Gardens surrounding the museum. Stop for a delicious Middle Eastern lunch in Silk Road Café while avoiding the rain.

Trinity College

Enter a world of history and heritage with a visit to Trinity College Dublin, where the north and south of the city meet. There is a 45-acre campus to explore if the weather is good but plenty to see within its walls if not. Visit the Book of Kells, Ireland’s greatest cultural treasure, which has been visited by millions of people since it was placed in Trinity College in 1953. Marvel at the Long Room, one of the world’s most beautiful libraries which looks like it’s straight from a fairy-tale. The Long Room is the longest single-chamber library in the world and houses over 200,000 books. A far more modern attraction at Trinity College is the National Science Gallery which you can explore for free, at your leisure.

Kilmainham Gaol Museum

One of Dublin’s best historic attractions is a former jail, a short walk from Ashling Hotel Dublin. Kilmainham Gaol is easily one of the most interesting places to visit in Dublin, rain, hail or shine. Once home to some of the city’s most nefarious and interesting characters, the jail is best known for its role in housing the brave revolutionaries of the 1916 rising and being their final dwelling place before their execution on the grounds. You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy a visit. The guides will tell you all you need to know in an interesting and interactive way and will leave you to explore the museum section independently. It’s the ideal way to enrich your trip to Dublin and stay dry when the weather isn’t on your side.

Jameson Distillery

It never rains inside the pub, or in this case, the distillery! Located a short walk from our hotel in Smithfield, Jameson Distillery is not just an opportunity to sample one of the country’s biggest exports. Founded by John Jameson in 1780, today the former factory stands as a monument to Irish Whiskey. You’ll learn more about the process of distilling Whiskey, the history of the trade in Dublin and how to pair this delicious drink at home. You can book private tastings and learn how to blend your own whiskey or join the tour finishing off with a delicious drink, straight from the proverbial source. Choose comfort and convenience when you stay in one of Dublin’s premier four-star hotels, Ashling Hotel. If you book on our official website, you’ll enjoy our best available rates and exclusive access to our special offers. If you don’t want to brave the rain, our restaurant and bar will keep you entertained! We look forward to welcoming you to Dublin.
